yin-yang.

I have an awesome/different/unique relationship with one of my guy friends from high school.

He and I got close during homeroom --> kind of had no choice; we were always stuck together because of our last names.

You know how it works- ALPHABETICALLY. Well his last name starts with S and mine starts with T so each year I sat behind him in homeroom.

After high school, outside of the classroom, our friendship has transformed a bit.

Now we spend time sitting across the table from one another at Barnes and Noble, reading.

I will read my Christian books; about women in ministry, about reaching teens in youth ministry; about intimacy with Christ.

AND ACROSS THE TABLE..

He will read his books about Daoism; that focus on compassion, moderation, and humility. Daosim has the yin yang symbol, which represents that everything has an opposite.

  • He has questioned my beliefs.

  • He has challenged the way I choose to live.

  • He has helped me ponder the hard questions about evil and hell.

  • He has always listened openly to what I had to say.

  • He has shared openly about what he believes and what he does not believe.

I love our friendship because it is full of respect, acceptance, and it always is a chance to grow.

Do you have friends that.. Challenge you and help you OWN your faith?

One of my closest friends is a guy named Dave that I met in college. We have been friends for about 8 or 9 years now and for about 7 of those years he was not a Christian. We still maintained a close friendship through each of those years and God used him in a big way to make me the Christian man I am today. I am so thankful for those challenging conversations and I can't even begin to imagine where I would be without them!
